S’Mores Bar – An Non-Traditional Mother’s Day

Hey gang!  How is every body doing lately? I have been good and busy!  I finished my spring semester! I only have 2, 8 week classes left of my Master’s degree and I will complete those in the fall! How cool is that?  I also realized that it’s that time of year when a craving for s’mores hits…

Anyways, I hope everyone had a great weekend this past weekend.  I work in the service industry as you all know so it was busy busy busy.  I just wanted to share a short post with you today about what we treated my mom to for Mother’s Day!

My mom is picky.  She doesn’t wear makeup, doesn’t get her nails done, isn’t into massages or anything like that.  She buys everything she could ever want for herself leaving my brother and I scratching our heads and pondering what in the WORLD do we get this woman for Mother’s Day.  Personally, I am over it.  I hate hallmark holiday’s and while I obviously appreciate anything you moms do out there it’s just another reason for floral shops and hallmark to make millions.  One of my mom’s favorite things to do is spend time with her family.  I mean, we’re pretty awesome so I don’t see why she wouldn’t love that :).  My brother and I did end up getting her a card..It’s almost a necessity but picking out her gift was a different challenge.  We decided to take her out for dinner and then come home for dessert, start a bonfire, and make s’mores.  It just so happened that regular old s’mores weren’t going to be good enough, no way, no how.

We wanted to really push the bar..we wanted to do gourmet s’mores for the ages.  I browsed Pinterest for a short time and found some interesting combinations.  Here is what our s’mores setup looked like.

As you can see we had no limit of choices.

“Cracker” choices:

Graham Crackers

Fudge Stripe Cookies

Chips Ahoy

Chocolate Choices:

Original Hershey’s

Hershey’s with Almond

Hershey’s Cookies and Cream

Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate and Caramel Squares

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Lindt White Chocolate Bar

Marshmallow Choices:

Original (s’more shaped)

Toasted Coconut

It was an overwhelming amount of choices but we had a little taste test of a bunch of different kinds! We had all winners of the ones we tried but some good combinations were,

Strawberry Cheesecake:

Strawberry Marshmallow, White Chocolate, Graham Cracker

Girl Scout Samoa:

Toasted Coconut Marshmallow, Ghirardelli Square, Graham Cracker

Original Marshmallow, Cookies and Cream Bar, Graham Cracker

Fudge Stripe:

Original Marshmallow, Fudge Stripe Cookie. (No excess chocolate, unless you’re feeling frisky)

Chocolate Peanut Butter:

Original Marshmallow, Peanut Butter Cup, Graham Cracker.

Peanut Butter Double Chocolate Chip:

Original Marshmallow, Peanut Butter Cup, Chips Ahoy.

Almond Joy:

Toasted Coconut Marshmallow, Hershey’s with Almond, Graham Cracker.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry:

Strawberry Marshmallow, Hershey’s Chocolate, Graham Cracker.

The Classic:

Original Marshmallow, Hershey’s Chocolate, Graham Cracker.

I’m sure there are dozens and dozens more combinations you can try!  I think it would be fun to keep it up for the holiday’s like when they come out with pumpkin spice marshmallows in the fall.  I also think it would be handy (now that I have tons of chocolate/crackers and cookies/marshmallows leftover) to keep a s’mores kit readily available in a cooler or a box.  You could then take this camping with you!

If you don’t have a fire handy you can always make my recipe for skillet s’mores. I will leave the link to that here.

What did you guys do for your mom’s for Mother’s Day?
